Local Handbag Maker Looking For More Space

Valere Rene Handbags & Totes is bursting at the seams.

Since the two-year-old handbag design company started its wholesale business in April, it has already surpassed its goal of reaching 20 retailers in the first year, said owner Valere Gregory.

The handmade bags can now be found at stores in seven different states, and Valere Rene’s visibility will likely only increase after a recent revelation that it — along with local toy-maker Darwin and Delilah, quilt-maker Rural Builders Association Inc. and Ozark Beer Co. — was named as a finalist for Martha Stewart’s American Made.

Right now, Valere Rene is making about 300 pieces per week, with only two full-time sewers who work from a 450-SF studio in the back of its boutique in downtown Rogers.

That’s why Gregory is currently looking for a warehouse space to expand the company’s manufacturing operations.

When that happens, the three senior seamstresses, including Gregory, will keep working from the studio at the boutique, and Gregory plans to hire at least three additional sewers.

If all goes to plan, Valere Rene will open the new facility early next year.
