Local Auto Franchise Owner Faces Felony Drug Charge

Monte Johnston, owner of the Springdale-based Automatic Auto Finance franchise, was officially charged in Washington County Circuit Court with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance, schedule VI, a Class D felony.

Johnston faces up to six years in prison and/or up to $10,000 in fines for arriving at the Springdale Municipal Airport with over four ounces of what police described as pot and pot products from Colorado. He was arrested and jailed on the evening of Aug. 5.

Investigators determined that Johnston was interested in opening up his own pot dispensaries in Massachusetts, Colorado and Hawaii.

Johnston’s next court appearance is Dec. 17.
