Rogers Little Theater is now the Arkansas Public Theatre at the Victory, the organization announced on June 30.

The new name reflects the theater’s inclusiveness and strength, according to a press release from APT.

It also gives a nod to the theater’s downtown venue, the historical Victory Theater, built in 1927.

The Victory Theater was remade several times, before it closed in the 1970s. It was once a vaudeville theater, then a community gathering place, and then a movie theater, according to the APT website.

APT purchased the theater in 2008, with help from donors that include the Walmart Foundation.

The all-volunteer, community theater has earned a reputation for its quality productions, gaining recognition as a local favorite in several local publications.

The 29th season will conclude with “Shrek the Musical,” which runs from July 24 to Aug. 9, according to the theater’s website.

The 30th season will kick off in September, with “Cabaret.”

Other productions slated for the upcoming season include “The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy,” and “Mary Poppins.”

APT is a nonprofit organization. It is run by a Creative Management Committee, board of directors and board of producers.
