University of Arkansas Chancellor David Gearhart has purchased a new residence in the Savanna Estates neighborhood of Fayetteville.

Washington County real estate records show that G. David and Jane B. Gearhart bought the 3,412-SF home on East Natchez Trace for $435,000. The deed was filed April 3.

Gearhart, you’ve probably heard, is retiring this year, effective July 31. After serving a decade as vice chancellor for the Division of University Advancement, he became the UA’s fifth chancellor on July 1, 2008. Since that time, he has lived at the 9,200-SF Fowler House, the home on Razorback Road that serves as the official residence for the top UA administrator, as well as an event facility for several of the school’s dinners and fundraisers.

Gearhart and his wife have also owned a residence in rural Washington County south of Winslow for several years, through their Gearhart Family Trust. Online records did not indicate that property had been sold.

Dan Ferritor, the UA chancellor from 1986 until his retirement in 1997, was recently appointed interim chancellor until the UA names a permanent replacement. Ferritor has stated, however, that he will continue to live at his Hyland Park residence in Fayetteville.
