One of the ways to better understand the life of early Fort Smith soldiers is to better understand the weapons they carried, especially their flintlock muskets. Using these tools, you can explain the transition of military in and around Fort Smith from 1817 through the early parts of the Civil War. On May 31st at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Fort Smith National Historic Site will present a program about the realities faced by soldiers in Fort Smith and fire flintlock muskets. Admission is free.
