The Arkansas House of Representatives elected their Speaker-designate for the 2015 session – Rep. Jeremy Gillam (R-Judsonia).

Gillam received 57 votes in a secret ballot, defeating Reps. Matthew Shepherd (R-El Dorado), Kim Hammer (R-Benton) and Fred Love (D-Little Rock).

Gillam is a farmer from White County and will be serving his third term in 2015. He is unopposed for re-election this year.

He said that he plans to govern in much the same style as outgoing Speaker of the House Davy Carter (R-Cabot).

Also, the House Republican caucus voted Rep. Ken Bragg (R-Sheridan) to be House Majority Leader in 2015.
