Boosted by a recent milestone, the only bank chartered in Madison County is changing its name.

First State Bank of Northwest Arkansas of Huntsville is changing its name to Today’s Bank, effective April 1.

The bank, chartered in 1991, has two branches in Huntsville and one in Fayetteville, and had assets totaling $100.7 million as of Dec. 31.

That marked the first time FSB had reached $100 million in assets, continuing an upward climb the last several years.

At the end of 2008, FSB had total assets of $70.7 million, an increase of 42.4 percent.

FSB had net income in 2013 of about $1.11 million.

Larry Olson, president and CEO of FSB, said in a press release he hopes the name change will help draw attention to the bank’s positive growth.

“The current name is somewhat geographically restrictive,” Olson added. “So this name change also can set the stage for continued future growth outside the immediate area.”

The bank will host an open house at all three locations on April 4.

FSB is owned by Mathias Bancshares Inc. of Springdale, led by Sam Mathias.
