Bigg Gunn
Former circuit judge Mary Ann Gunn, quasi-famous for her TV show “Last Shot with Judge Gunn,” is joining the Cabana Law Group and Fayetteville attorney Chadd Mason, the man who was appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe to replace Gunn in June 2011 after she resigned from the bench to do her TV show.
Mason served until the end of 2012, when he was replaced with election-winner and current circuit judge Cristi Beaumont.
Mason confirmed the Gunn news to Whispers via cellphone while sitting out on a deck in Colorado.
“I have known her forever and she has a passion to help people,” Mason said of Gunn.
Gunn, who was preparing for trial, could not be reached for comment.
The Cabana Law Group will be affiliated with Cabana Asset Management, an investment advisory group formed by Mason in 2007. A key aspect of the Cabana practice will entail investment law with settlements, awards and divorces, Mason said.
Gunn resigned from the judiciary in 2011, and, in a deal with the Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission, agreed to never again serve as a judge in Arkansas. The commission agreement was believed to be related to the filming and broadcast of drug court, over which she presided. Shortly after her resignation from the judiciary, she undertook the “Last Shot with Judge Gunn” TV series and won an Emmy Award in 2012.
But Whispers was told the TV show went away about a year ago, and Gunn has been a partner in The Gunn Firm of Fayetteville since that time.
Mason, in case you did not know, represented James Van Doren, a co-defendant in the federal fraud and money laundering case targeting former developer Brandon Barber.
