The Fort Smith Museum of History will host UAFS English professor, Kevin L. Jones, for a lecture and book signing. The author’s latest book, Images of America: Fort Smith, is available in the museum gift shop.
The book chronicles the history of Fort Smith through photographs, many from the Museum’s collection. From the establishment of the first fort, supply point for the West and the Federal Court, learn the story of the growth of the city into a center of trade and industry through the fascinating images. Included is the growth of education, health care, transportation, natural resources and commerce. The importance of modern developments such as Fort Chaffee, the 188th National Guard Unit and the University of Arkansas—Fort Smith are also addressed.
Dr. Jones presents an entertaining as well as educational program on the city’s unique history. Also available is Jones’ first book, Postcard Series: Fort Smith, which offers an excellent selection of post cards.
Free with Museum admission: $5 for adults, $2 for children.
