An empty office building on Fayetteville’s College Avenue is soon to get a new life, courtesy of a renovation effort in excess of $1 million.

Fayetteville businessman Mark Zweig recently bought the 6,619-SF building at 1200 N. College for $350,000.

The property’s most recent tenant was Weichert Realtors — Clark Long & Associates. It’s directly behind popular Fayetteville eatery Rick’s Bakery.

“Hopefully we won’t get too fat over there,” Zweig joked. “You just can’t say no to those apple fritters. At least I can’t.”

The building will be completely gutted and redone, Zweig said, as office space for Mark Zweig Inc. and ZweigWhite LLC.

Mark Zweig Inc. was founded by Zweig as a high-end design, development and construction firm.

ZweigWhite provides consulting, research, training, events, publishing and media products and services to the architecture, engineering, and environmental consulting industries.

In addition to its headquarters in Fayetteville — which are currently in leased space on West Trenton Boulevard near Wilson Park — ZweigWhite also maintains offices in Boston and Chicago.

Renovation of the building should be complete by Aug. 31.
