The Fayetteville Flyer reported Thursday that longtime city of employee David Jurgens, has resigned.

Jurgens, according to the report, accepted a job as director of public utilities for the city of Chesapeake, Va.

Jurgens’ last day is tentatively set for Jan. 10, ending a 21-year career with the city of Fayetteville. He has served as utilities director since 2005 when he was promoted from superintendent of water and sewer maintenance. Before that, he was a staff engineer.

A search to fill Jurgens’ position will begin after the holidays.
