Tolbert: Copeland Considers Another Lt. Governor Campaign
Donnie Copeland tells me this evening that he is considering another run for Lieutenant Governor. Copeland ran unsuccessfully in 2010 narrowly losing the Republican primary against incumbent Mark Darr 48% to 52%. Copeland is the pastor of Apostolic Church in North Little Rock.
I noticed Copeland’s old website – VoteCopeland.com – had some activity on Monday that indicated it could be in preparation for a launch. The website is registered to Skot Covert – who assists with several political campaign websites and previously worked on the Darr campaign.
Copeland confirmed that he was getting the website ready in case he decides to run for Lieutenant Governor but had not yet made a final decision. He tells me there are several things he has to consider, but should be making a decision soon.
Rep. Andy Mayberry and Rep. Charlie Collins have both announced they will seek the office. Darr briefly entered the race for Congress in the Fourth Congressional District, but withdrew after questions were raised by Matt Campbell of Blue Hog Report regarding Darr’s campaign financial reports and office expenditures.
More inquiries on these questions are expected to develop this month and it is doubtful Darr runs for re-election, although he has not officially announced his intentions.
