Taste of Trinity delivered different cultural tastes
Fort Smith-based Trinity Junior High school held Taste of Trinity on Saturday (Nov. 16) to give everyone a taste from all the cultures attending the school. There was something for everyone with foods including Cajun, Asian, Hispanic, German, Cuban, and everything in between.
This event not only helps teach kids about different cultures but also helps fund the school with tickets at $18 per adult and $8 per child.
“Moving into the holiday season, we want to say thank you to all of our parents and benefactors who have helped us meet our mission by your generosity with your time, talent and treasure,” said Trinity Principal Dr. Jim Hattabaugh.
Becky Ahlert, development director at Trinity, said the children and students “get to try the best food from each culture” since everything is homemade and the parents are making the things they know are good.
The sponsors for the event included Burford distributing, Shamrock Liquor, Coca-cola bottling company Fort Smith, 21 cafe & catering, Moreno Bakery, Chick-Fil-A, Bienvenider mi Casita, creative kitchen, el Celaya, George’s restaurant, and Sweet Boutique.
Taste of Trinity had several performances starting off with their band performance of “Frosty the Snowman.” The True Blue dance team followed with the drama club right behind them. There was no microphone for the drama club and they could not be heard but they did not know that and kept going so the crowd enjoyed a “silent movie” as one onlooker said.
The cheer team did not need a microphone though and after them several Trinity Junior High students dressed as a dragon tore through the audience making some younger kids scream with excitement (and maybe a little bit of fear) and run away. Santa Claus also made an appearance to give kids a chance to get their picture taken with him.
“Please help us keep the students focused on academics and learning. From all of us at Trinity, we wish you and your families a most peaceful, joyful and fun Thanksgiving holiday,” Hattabaugh said near the end of the ceremony.
