The Little Rock Technology Park Authority board voted 4-3 to locate a new technology park at a site in downtown Little Rock.

The long-running debate has stirred heated discussions in the community for months.

The other two sites that had been under consideration were locations pitched by UALR and property near the intersection of I-630 and University Avenue.

Karen Tricot Steward with our content partner, KUAR-FM 89 News, reports that the next step in the process is to work with consultants and real estate professionals on moving forward with the downtown location.

The tech park would house a variety of economic-focused projects geared toward research happening at UAMS, UALR and other local entities that could be eventually lead to commercialization and new business start-ups. For three years, plans for the park have been debated.

Little Rock voters passed a 3/8-cent sales tax increase that, in part, dedicated $22 million toward development of the tech park.
