A Kum & Go is planned for downtown Springdale.

Located at 500 S. Thompson St. and Maple Avenue, the gas station will be the only one between Huntsville and Robinson avenues.

The half-acre plot is owned by Mathews Investments of Springdale. Founded in 1959, Kum & Go is the fifth-largest privately held convenience store chain in the United States, and operates at least 15 locations in Washington and Benton counties.

Companywide, Kum & Go operates more than 400 stores in 11 states across the Midwest.

The Springdale Department of Planning and Community Development confirmed that at one point, c-store rival Casey’s General Store was supposed to build at the Thompson Street location but pulled out.

A car wash used to be located at the site, which is directly across the street from Northwest Medical Center-Springdale.
