Project Compassion is hosting 1K  5K  and 10K Run for a Resident!  April 20, 2013 at Chaffee Crossing in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  The cost to register online at www.projectcompassioninc.org is $20 until Monday, April 15, 2013 and $25 to register the day of the event. Groups of 4 or more may run for $15 each.  Registration fee includes a t-shirt and the first 100 entrants are guaranteed a “goodie” backpack and water bottle.
Project Compassion is a non-profit organization and United Way Community Partner that specializes in coordinating volunteers to visit residents with no family or friends in River Valley nursing homes, long term care facilities and retirement homes.   Volunteers also help with Bingo, play music and sing, and bring pets in to visit.
Since 92% of area nursing home residents rely on state and federal assistance and have a negligible amount of disposable income, they must rely on the kindness of others for such things as warm clothing to wear outside and soft, warm pajamas.  Proceeds from this event will help fund our Christmas Hearts of Gold campaign which supplies the residents with a meaningful gift at Christmas – usually warm clothing and socks for the cold winter months and a book or Bible with a Christmas card.
Please join us on April 20th, come out and enjoy the spring with us! Walk or run in honor of those that cannot and celebrate Project Compassion’s 41st year as your local volunteer organization with a heart of gold.
