The word has been out for a while that an AKiN’S Natural Foods Market is coming to the Scottsdale Center in Rogers this spring.

More definitively, according to company marketing coordinator Kim Fisher, the new store will open in May and host a grand opening in June. It likely will employ about 25 people, a mix of full-time and part-time workers.

The chain, based in Tulsa, touts itself as one of the longest-operated natural foods markets in the U.S. The first store opened in 1935, and its new outlets in Rogers and Omaha, Neb., will be its ninth and 10th, respectively.

Its products include organic groceries and produce, supplements, cruelty-free cosmetics, pet supplies and gift items.

Fisher, incidentally, is a Mountain Home native and University of Arkansas graduate who lived and worked in Los Angeles for more than 20 years before moving back closer to home.
