Shop Small, a program pushed by American Express, is being actively promoted by the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce.

“We, as consumers, spend our money in a variety of places and we are glad we have those choices.  However, before you spend all of your money on Black Friday or even on Cyber Monday, consider shopping LOCALLY and shopping small on Small Business Saturday,” noted a statement from the chamber.

The Shop Small movement is growing. Last year more than 100 million people came together to Shop Small in their communities on Small Business Saturday.

In Van Buren, several small retailers with unique products and service are participating.

“When you are out this week and all year long, look for the blue Shop Small Welcome mats at local stores. Support these local businesses who work hard to help build our community,” noted the statement from Jackie Krutsch, executive director of the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce.

The Van Buren Chamber has distributed 50 free “Shop Small” mats to retail members throughout the area. They can be found on Historic Main Street Van Buren, and places like William's Florist, Kopper Kettle Candies, Ms.B's Shoes, Captive Images and many other unique shops.
