Plum Creek Timber Company has been named as the recipient of the Arkansas Wildlife Federation’s (AWF) John L. Gray Forestry Conservationist of the Year award for 2012.

The award recognizes deserving companies or individuals who have made exceptional efforts to protect wildlife habitat, manage forests wisely and support the local community.

One project Plum Creek was selected for is its conservation planning to protect the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker. The company developed this project while working closely with the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission, the Arkansas Office of The Nature Conservancy and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

In addition, the company has certified all of its lands nationwide, including its 724,000 acres in Arkansas to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, a comprehensive standard for forestry land management.
