Gene Jeffress’ Unconventional Congressional Campaign

We have not heard too much from state Sen. Gene Jeffress, Democratic candidate for Congress in the south Arkansas Fourth District, but what we have heard indicates that he is running a very unconventional campaign.  It seems he even considered dropping out not too long ago.

His fourth quarter fundraising numbers are out soon, but I would not expect too much from them. In October, he told the AP that he “hasn’t raised a penny” and a Facebook message on Thursday indicates he is not too big on fundraising.

“I went to Washington back in November to talk to some people. Well all I heard in Washington was money, money, money. Well I basiclly (sic) was turned off. I had decided to not run. i (sic) wanted to represent the people not the big corporations that would give to my campaign,” wrote Jeffress.

He goes on to say that after talking with his wife, he “decided to run but on my on (sic) terms.”

“I’m running for the people of the fourth district (sic), to represent them and not the big corporations. I need your help.  Im (sic) taking donations so if you feel like u (sic) can contribute to the campaign please do, if not then I ask you to pass the word to vote for me and most of all your prayers,” he concluded.

Jeffress will also speak in an unconventional forum this Monday, January 9 when he addresses the Southeast Arkansas TEA Party at Living Word Fellowship in Monticello at 6:30 pm.  This is the same night that the three Republican candidates – Tom Cotton, Beth Anne Rankin, and Marcus Richmond – debate in El Dorado (which you can watch on live-stream at TalkBusiness.net).

The only other Democrat that has announced in the Fourth District is former U.S. Senate candidate D.C. Morrison who ran as a conservative in the primary against Blanche Lincoln and Bill Halter.  No word if Democrats will field another candidate, but filing begins in less than 50 days.
