A woman with … nerve

Take a look at Elizabeth Cook’s photo on the Second Street Live! website. Don’t let the sultry photo of her laying across a paisley bedspread fool you into believing she’s a tart.

By golly, she’s a woman with gumption of another kind, according to her 2007 song “Sometimes it Takes Balls to be a Woman.”

The guitarist and singer/songwriter from Wildwood, Fla., is likely to include this anthem in her repertoire when she takes the stage at Second Street Live! Jan. 25. (Men, guard the door to the men’s room — the music video depicts Cook using a urinal wearing a full-length formal gown.)

Despite her slightly raunchy signature song, Cook brings street cred wherever she goes. She debuted on the Grand Ole Opry more than a decade ago, has released five albums and received three nominations for Americana Music Association music awards in 2011, tying Robert Plant for the most nods.

The Second Street doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show at 7:30 p.m. Amanda Cramer is the opening act.

If you like Cook at Second Street, make the trip to Fayetteville to see her the next night at George’s Majestic Lounge on Dickson Street.
