Burlsworth Trophy To Be Announced

We’ve got an update on the inaugural Burlsworth Trophy.

Finalists for the national award, named after former University of Arkansas All-American Brandon Burlsworth, will be announced on Dec. 5, with the winner announced on Dec. 15. The award will be given to a player who started his career as a walk-on.

Burlsworth began his Razorback career as a walk-on before eventually earning a scholarship and later being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts. He was killed in a car crash just weeks after the draft.

We’re told almost 50 nominations, including at least two players projected to go in the first five rounds of next year’s draft, were submitted from among 120 Football Bowl Subdivision teams. For that, and pretty much everything associated with The Brandon Burlsworth Foundation, we offer a round of applause.
