Party House and ?Cuisines? Call it Quits

One of Fayetteville’s longstanding retail shops is set to close its doors for good by the end of the year.
Betty Lahiri, who has owned and operated Party House for more than 30 years, confirmed she is going out of business. Party House long has been known as a go-to spot for party supplies, jewelry, accessories, and all manner of fraternity and sorority items.
“I’m going to be 69 years old and I’m ready to retire,” said Lahiri, who also did event planning.
Lahiri said business “has not been that bad,” despite a rocky economy, and that she initially hoped to sell the business. After failing to find a suitable buyer, however, she decided to close.
“Sometimes it’s better to just let it go,” Lahiri said.
Lahiri said she’d like to close by Thanksgiving, but thinks sometime in December is more realistic.
Cuisines Gourmet to Go, meanwhile, already has closed. Owner Don DeSpain indicated via e-mail the Rogers-based event planning and catering operation closed due to “the challenging economy teamed with a desire to improve on some medical issues.”
