State Awarded Money Under Clean Vessel Act
Arkansas will get a piece of the $12.8 million pie to be doled out this year under the Clean Vessel Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced on May 7.
Arkansas is expected to get $236,675, which the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission plans to use to purchase several sewage pumpout boats, install sewage pumpout and dump stations, and provide funds for the operation, maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of existing sewage pumpout stations as needed. Beaver Lake, Bull Shoals Lake and the Arkansas River are among those expected to benefit.
Funding for the CVA program comes from the Sport Fishing and Boating Trust Fund, which is supported by excise taxes levied on certain fishing and boating equipment, as well as boat fuels.
