$2M Award For Ex-Pharmacist
A former Wal-Mart Stores Inc. pharmacist was awarded $2 million from a Massachusetts jury who agreed with her claims of gender bias.
Cynthia Haddad, who worked at Wal-Mart in Pittsfield, Mass., from 1993-2004, claimed she was fired after demanding the same bonus check received by male pharmacy managers. Wal-Mart claimed she was fired for violating company policies.
The retailer dismissed her two weeks after she received the bonus check she demanded.
Wal-Mart did not announce whether it would appeal the verdict. The Bentonville retailer is currently facing the largest sex discrimination class action lawsuit in the nation’s history with as many as 1.6 million current and former female employees represented.
