Blue Plate Caf? Food Review (Business Lunch)

Other than the circular shaped dining room that is half surrounded by windows, there really isn’t anything extravagant about the Blue Plate Café in Bentonville. It’s exactly what it says it is — a café.

After finding one of the only three available tables, we took our seats and were promptly greeted by a waitress.

Keeping with the usual café charm, our drinks were on the table before we were even ready to order and once we ordered, the food was there just as quickly.

However, the fast, friendly service was about the best part of our visit. The meal left something to be desired. Maybe we ordered the wrong stuff, but what we ate was average at best.

Everything was served — to no one’s surprise — on blue plates.

Off of the lunch menu (the restaurant only serves breakfast and lunch), our first reviewer ordered the meatloaf ($7) that boasted it was “What you wish grandma used to make.”

At least it wasn’t dry. “There’s nothing worse than dry meatloaf,” said our first reviewer. He did sound pleased with his choice of two sides which came with the moist meatloaf, calling his green beans “flavorful” and the fried okra “tasty.” He also wasn’t exactly excited about the flavor of his iced tea.

Our second reviewer ordered a traditional Club sandwich ($6) served with potato chips (we could have substituted steak fries for 50 cents more). Our reviewer said there was nothing special about the triple-decker Club that was available on white bread only.

There was a dessert menu — featuring cherry and apple pie and peach cobbler with ice cream — that we did not partake in since the waitress brought the ticket to our table without asking if we wanted a dessert.

Overall, we were pleased with the speedy service, which is ideal for a business lunch. However, we were hoping for something a bit tastier than the usual café eats. But usual is exactly what we got.
