Springdale Firm Looks At Building Data Center
A tier IV data center may be in the works for the Springdale Technology Park within the next two years. Todd West, president of Springdale-based MTS Inc., said his company is doing research on the area’s needs for such a center.
A tier IV data center is a top-of-the-line secured offsite data backup location with computer or hard-drive space available for lease to commercial clients.
MTS is the result of the merger of two companies, Advanced Telecommunications and Maxsurg Technology Services. The merger took place about a year ago, West said. The two technology-related companies had somewhat overlapping but different business models.
Now MTS offers everything from outfitting a building with telecommunications cables to software development.
MTS had about $1 million in revenue last year, West said, and is on track to make about $4.1 million this year.
The company’s target client is the small-to-medium sized business. West said that segment frequently gets “ignored.”
West said he and his investors are dedicated to development of the knowledge-based industry in Springdale. The company now employs 24 people, but that could grow to 36 by the end of the year.
One person MTS employs was a minimum-wage worker about three years ago, West said.
But the company helped train the man and sent him to get Cisco certified. The employee now makes an annual salary of about $70,000, West said.
