Ed Knight, owner of two Penguin Ed’s Bar-B-Que restaurants in Fayetteville, has bought all six houses adjoining the old B&B Bar-B-Que property at 230 S. East St. Knight operates his second restaurant out of the location, which he bought in 1998. The property makes up the triangular block formed by E. South Street, College Avenue and Archibald Yell Boulevard.

The house at 12 E. South St. was purchased by Emperor Investments LLC, of which Knight is a principal, for about $126,000 according to revenue stamps on the warranty deed. The property was recently appraised for $66,850. The deal closed July 23.

Knight said he doesn’t have a “grand plan” for the property, but he’s thinking about revitalizing it as affordable housing or maybe commercial property. The area lies within the boundaries of the city’s proposed tax-increment financing district. The Fayetteville City Council is scheduled to vote on the proposal on Aug. 17.

Residents living in the houses are tenants of Knight’s.
