Carnall Inn Development Co. plans to open The UARK, a jazz supper club, in the UARK Bowl building on Fayetteville’s Dickson Street by Aug. 8.

Miles James will serve as chef for the restaurant. James is owner of James at the Mill in Johnson. He is the chef at that restaurant as well as Ella’s Restaurant in the University of Arkansas’ historic Carnall Hall.

James said the menu at The UARK will be “eclectic” and will include gourmet pizzas from the wood-fired ovens a block away at Ella’s.

Clay Doss will manage the new “supper club.”

The UARK Bowl owners have been leasing that facility for private events since it opened in 2002, and it will still be possible to rent it out after it becomes a jazz supper club/martini bar, said Rob Merry-Ship.

Owners of The UARK jazz club are Merry-Ship, Richard Alexander, Ted and Leslie Belden, and Lamar Anderson, who owns Hugo’s restaurant in Fayetteville.

In addition to featuring local musicians, the owners will periodically bring in nationally prominent musicians.
