A wholesale heating and air conditioning business moved into Northwest Arkansas and Little Rock within days of each other last month. Ken Shollmier said a noncompete clause from the 1989 sale of a previous HVAC business kept him out of Arkansas where he ran a Carrier and Bryant distributorship for 20 years. Now he’s back with a different brand — Luxaire Heating and Cooling Equipment.

SCI sells HVAC systems to contractors for residential and commercial buildings. Shollmier said the systems are as big as 40 tons each.

He said the company has invested $1 million to open the Northwest Arkansas shop. Ten staff members were hired to handle operations at 6000 Scott Hamilton St. in Little Rock, and four people were hired to manage the Tontitown business.

“With the staff that we have there who are local and everyone knows them, and the fact that performance is the key, we expect rapid growth for the next three years,” Shollmier said, predicting the future of the new Northwest Arkansas operation.

Within weeks Shollmier plans to open another SCI outlet in Springfield, Mo., and within a year, he plans to have more operations in Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

In addition to the Luxaire HVAC systems, SCI also owns HVAC Financing, with operations in 35 states.

The SCI office in Tontitown is 17,560 SF.
