Tontitown-based P.A.M. Transportation Services Inc. on Nov. 1 reported net income of $3.9 million or earnings per share of 35 cents for the quarter ended Sept. 30. That compares to a net income of $2 million and an earnings per share of 23 cents for 2001’s comparable quarter.
The nine-month totals ended Sept. 30 were $12.6 million in net income and earnings per share of $1.20. For the same three quarters of 2001, the truckload carrier recorded $7.5 million in net income and earnings per share of 88 cents.
Robert W. Weaver, the company’s president and CEO, said increases in earnings per share, revenue and operating income made for a very solid quarter. He added that being once again named to Forbes magazine’s best 200 small companies played a roll.
“During the quarter we also added two new directors, Tom Cooke and Frank Conner, which we feel greatly enhances our board,” Weaver said.
Cooke is a 33-year veteran of Ford Motor Co. where he held numerous managerial positions. Conner was executive vice president of accounting and finance and chief financial officer of American Freightways since 1995. He was also a director of that firm prior to its Feb. 2001 sale to FedEx Corp. of Memphis.
