Evapo-Rust, made by Harris International Laboratories of Springdale, was named one of this year’s 100 best inventions in the world by Research & Development Magazine. The company, which only began mass production of the rust remover in January, received the honor in the publication’s September issue alongside heavyweights such as NASA Research Center and Los Alamos National Laboratories.

The awards have been given for the last 39 years for innovations in science.

The Northwest Arkansas Business Journal told you about Harris International in July of 2000 when inventor David Harris’ patent for the product was still pending. He had to change the name from Core-Ban C for legal reasons but has since trademarked Evapo-Rust.

Harris’ firm just moved into a 4,500-SF facility off Old Missouri Road where it can produce 5,000 gallons of the product daily. Twelve distributors now carry Evapo-Rust nationwide, and others take it to 33 countries worldwide.

The product is heralded for being safe, friendly to the environment and using a unique iron oxide removal method. Harris is now working on additional inventions, including some with military applications.
