Purple Dawgs May Not Be Heard
The only way to hear Fayetteville High School’s football team this season may be from the stands.
Less than two weeks before its season opener, FHS found itself still searching for a radio station to carry its games. As of Aug. 16 — the Bulldogs open Sept. 1 — FHS Athletic Director Dick Johnson was awaiting word on a couple of last-minute possibilities.
“Fayetteville doesn’t have a hometown radio station,” Johnson said. “They’re all corporately owned outside Fayetteville, and they make decisions strictly on dollars. They could care less about the Fayetteville Bulldogs.”
Butler Broadcasting Inc. carried FHS games last year but has since switched that station to a Spanish format. Cumulus Broadcasting Inc. didn’t want to put Class AAAAA FHS on any of its FM stations, even though one of its stations may broadcast Class AA Shiloh Christian games.
