Evidence of Janet Drew’s creativity can be viewed in a small paned window in downtown Rogers. Dubbed From A Sow’s Ear, Drew’s new business sells handmade and refurbished pieces of furniture.
Cupboard doors converted into hat racks and “faux old” dining tables reflect Drew’s style.
A mother of five children, Drew taught herself how to build and decorate furniture while she raised her kids at home.
“It came out of a desire to have pretty things that I couldn’t necessarily go out and buy,” Drew said.
Friends caught on to Drew’s talent and began buying some of her works. Soon shop keepers began asking for a few pieces.
When she and her family recently moved back to Northwest Arkansas after a 15-year stay in Oregon, Drew decided to open a shop that featured her furniture.
Now, she designs and creates the pieces in a small studio in the shop. Picture frames, mirrors and pillows sit in the showroom. From A Sow’s Ear also features scented bars of local, handmade soap.
In addition to perusing the showroom, customers can bring broken or tired items to Drew for rejuvenation.
With all of her supplies already on hand, Drew spent less than $1,000 to open From A Sow’s Ear.
