James Hammons opened Hammons Financial Planning & Investments to offer fiscal counseling to investors of all ages. As an independent advisor, Hammons’ services include estate and retirement planning and insurance sales, but he also helps his clients prepare to purchase a home or save for their children’s educations.

“I like being able to do what is innovative and independent,” Hammons said.

His career as a personal financial planner started less than two years ago when he began work as an investment officer for Regions Bank in Northwest Arkansas. Before that, he served 26 years in the U.S. Postal Service, including several postmaster positions, one of which was in Fayetteville.

Now Hammons and a part-time assistant run Hammons Financial Planning & Investments out of a 400-SF office in Rogers.

Excluding furniture costs, about $12,000 started the business, and Hammons said he plans to move the office into an 800-SF space in April.

Fees for Hammon’s financial planning vary according to the account plan, but his income is commission-based. The business does offer free initial consultations.
