Hathcock Possibilities
David McClinton said he is considering renovating the 15,000-SF building he owns at the corner of Dickson Street and Block Avenue in Fayetteville.
The two-story Hathcock Building, built in 1948 at 240 N. Block Ave., would most likely be converted into a mixed-use development with offices, apartments and possibly retail shops.
But the city of Fayetteville recently informed McClinton that $150,000 earmarked to improve sidewalks and lighting on Block Avenue will now go to trails instead. The Downtown/Dickson Enhancement Project has been trying to connect the downtown square with Dickson Street in the minds of residents and shoppers, and Block Avenue is the primary artery connecting the two.
“If Block street’s not going to be fixed, I don’t know what we should do,” McClinton said. “I have a building there I’ve owned for 29 years. … It might need to have some renovations done to it and it might not. Right now, it’s totally up in the air.”
McClinton also owns the parking lot to the west of the building. If renovated, the building could possibly be expanded to cover the lot.
