Ritta Martin Basu, executive editor of the Northwest Arkansas Times of Fayetteville, announced on Jan. 17 that she will resign from her job effective Feb. 16.

Martin Basu started at the Times in 1992 as a reporter. She became managing editor in 1995 and executive editor last June.

Martin Basu had no comment regarding her future plans.

The Times has been dwindling in size (number of pages) since it and the Benton County Daily Record entered into an “alliance” with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in August. Since then, Fayetteville’s daily newspaper has shrunk to one or two sections that are inserted inside the regional D-G.

The Times and Daily Record are owned by Community Publishers Inc. of Bentonville.
