Cafe is History: Retro Closes After 6 Months
The Retro Cafe quietly closed Oct. 5. The restaurant had been open on Fayetteville’s Dickson Street since April 12.
The restaurant was in the historic Bakery Building, owned by Greg House. The space was previously occupied by Cheeburger Cheeburger.
Jon Harper, owner of The Retro Cafe, couldn’t be reached for comment. Harper served as manager of Cheeburger Cheeburger for about a year before that business closed and he opened The Retro Cafe.
The main difference between the two restaurants was that The Retro Cafe served liquor and had a full bar. But apparently that wasn’t enough to survive in the heated restaurant competition in Fayetteville’s entertainment district.
The 2,700-SF restaurant had seats for about 100 diners. It was directly across the street from Jose’s Mexican Restaurant, which is the second-most popular restaurant (according to gross sales figures) in Fayetteville next to Red Lobster.
