Times editor Rita Martin-Basu said she killed the article.
“I first saw Randal’s column while I was proofing it on a page on deadline,” Basu said. “I saw that the column included information that did not accurately represent the situation as it existed at the newspaper and innuendoes that could have certainly been misinterpreted by our employees and our readers. The decision to not publish the column was not made to silence Randal’s voice, but instead to avoid publishing inaccurate and possibly misleading information.”
