Just charge it

Springdale-based trucking company Charger Inc. closed after filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Dec. 28, but that didn’t stop former owner Mike Bradley from purchasing a $480,000 home Aug. 4 in Springdale’s Har-Ber Meadows subdivision.

Charger attorneys are in the process of trying to retrieve about $5 million paid out by the company within 90 days of its bankruptcy filing. Also, Charger employees had their final paychecks bounce in December.

Charger was a privately held spinoff from J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell. Bradley paid $40 million in cash for Hunt’s flatbed division in July 1997. Charger’s assets included 700 trucks, 1,000 trailers. The company had about 1,000 employees.
