Geospatial center finds home at UA
Northwest Arkansas is quickly becoming a haven for geostationary satellite technology.
Two weeks after the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal first reported that Virtual Satellite Corp. is locating and marketing its products in Fayetteville, the University of Arkansas announced plans to create the Center of Excellence in Geomatics and Remote Sensing. The center will be located at the UA’s Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
A donation of sophisticated remote sensing and geospatial software by PCI Geomatics of Ontario, Canada, valued at $172,420, made the alliance possible.
CAST director W. Fredrick Limp is heading up the center. He said PCI’s gift gives the UA and CAST a unique opportunity to use groundbreaking technology as part of the school’s curriculum.
