Managing all the details of a major construction project can rattle even the most organized contractor. North Little Rock-based American Building Specialties opened a branch office in Northwest Arkansas to help commercial contractors tend to the details.

Owned by husband and wife Joe McIlveene and Georgeanne Russell McIlveene, American Building Specialties distributes commercial hardware such as hollow metal or wooden doors and doorframes, flag poles and fire extinguishers.

Hospitals, libraries and offices are within the target clientele.

McIlveene wanted to open a branch in the area to form closer contacts with local contractors.

Some of the company’s current projects include stocking the new Rogers high school with fire extinguishers and furnishing Governor Huckabee’s newly remodeled office with 14 oak doors, McIlveene said.

Alan Thurber manages the northwest branch, but McIlveene said he plans to staff at least six people at the satellite shop in one year.
