Kids will have to find another way to bug their mothers because they can no longer ask, “What’s for dinner?” Leilani Schweitzer offers parents an easy plan for building the weekly menu with her new business DinnerKits.
Each DinnerKit includes the ingredients and recipes necessary to cook dinners for four or five nights. Although she doesn’t cook the meals, Schweitzer does the grocery shopping and the recipe researching for her clients.
Prowling through her extensive recipe collection, Schweitzer compiles a menu for customers by taking into consideration the specific tastes of a family.
“If someone in the family is allergic to peanuts, I take out all of the Thai recipes,” Schweitzer explained. A 20 minute preliminary interview generally takes care of the preferences.
“Food is such a personal thing that people don’t realize how picky they are until they start talking about it,” Schweitzer said, “People’s tastes are so varied.”
DinnerKits are also built around the family’s schedule. Most of the recipes take less than 30 minutes in the kitchen, which works well because Schweitzer’s target clients are working parents who don’t want to serve their children junk food just because their time is limited.
Schweitzer said she started DinnerKits because it is a service she knew she could use herself.
