Richland Construction Co. of Springdale is building a 20,000-SF upscale office building at Commerce Center on Walton Boulevard in Bentonville. About $1.2 million of the $1.5 million project was financed by Arkansas National Bank.

Richland president and owner Neil Johnson is already receiving inquiries about the office space, although he will be more ready to interview prospective tenants in another month. The building’s interior will be configured to suit the needs of its tenants.

The office building sits on a one-acre site and will likely be leased to vendors of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Johnson plans to build another office complex on his undeveloped two-acre lot on Arkansas 265 in Springdale. The lot sits on the south boundary of National Lumber Co. and will be used to build four total buildings containing more than 20,000 SF.

Richland’s corporate offices will be moved to the new location in Springdale.

Johnson hopes to have the Bentonville project completed by the first of the year, and the Springdale project will be started around 2001.
