Cooper Communities Inc., with five successful master-planned communities in its stable, is exploring the possibility of expanding to Florida.
Randy Brucker, president and CEO of Cooper’s land development subsidiary, says the company has an option to buy about 1,500 acres in Walton County, Fla. That’s near the white-sand beaches of Destin, a popular vacation spot.
The company still faces a lengthy permitting process before closing the purchase, but Brucker says the Walton County site looks “promising.” If the deal closes, the intent is to develop the property into a master-planned community.
Cooper’s five master-planned communities include Bella Vista and Hot Springs Village, both in Arkansas, StoneBridge Village in Missouri, Tellico Village in Tennessee and Savannah Lakes Village in South Carolina. Bella Vista is the largest of the five developments; a sixth, Cherokee Village, was sold several years ago.
