Northwest Medical Center Celebrates Cancer Wing Opening
The opening of the Pat and Willard Walker Cancer Unit at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale was celebrated by the hospital July 21. The Walkers, whose gifts have helped the hospital and other area charities, gave $600,000 to help pay for renovating a floor of the hospital’s main tower.
Within a few weeks, the hospital expects to become the only area institution doing peripheral stem cell transplants, which is an advanced type of bone marrow transplant. Unlike bone marrow transplants, however, a donor is not required.
Hospital sources say they already have a waiting list of seven patients who hope to be treated at Northwest Medical Center.
