The contract to renovate and expand the Arkansas Union building at the University of Arkansas will be awarded to Kinco Inc. within the next two weeks.

The company, with offices in Little Rock and Northwest Arkansas, expects to have the $9.3 million contract signed and work started by Feb. 1, says Steve Johnson, vice president of estimating for the company.

Plans include renovating the ballroom and Razorback Shop and adding a food court within the existing building. A two-story addition on the east side of the building will be used to add a coffee shop, game room, computer center and offices to the building.

Kinco already is working on a major project adjacent to the Union. The company received the $6.8 million contract to build a new parking deck and university bus facility.
