Steve Baker says people should stick with their core competency, which is why all four of his businesses are based on helping people run their businesses through telephone technology.

His latest endeavor is Premier Paging & Telecommunications, a 24-hour live-voice telephone answering service and telecommunications company.

“We wanted to offer high-quality, professional answering service,” says Baker, who adds that his operators are highly trained and have a professional manner.

Baker owns an automated dialing system that registers which company a customer is attempting to call, allowing the operators to answer with a custom greeting. In the event that a customer is placed on hold, Premier can design a custom “hold” message for each client.

Clients can call in periodically to receive messages or have them sent to them by fax or pager.

The company also offers clients access to the Internet and sells Motorola pagers and paging services.

Premier also offers a service that allows clients to receive e-mail messages on alpha-numeric pagers. The message is sent directly to the pager and then forwarded automatically to an e-mail account in case the client wants to type a reply later.

“Eventually we want to be a one-stop shop for telecommunications,” Baker says. He is preparing to sell cellular phones.

Baker owns three other companies that occupy the same office space and utilize the same high-tech telephone equipment. National Account Systems, Automated Research & Marketing and Accounts Receivable Management all are located in the same building in Colt Square.

“Outsourcing is what we do,” Bake says. “I believe you should stick with your core competency, and this is what I am good at.”
