Lewis “Buddy” Nordan, a former Fayetteville resident and creative writing professor at the University of Arkansas, now has his own fan club with about 600 members, including Eudora Welty of Jackson, Miss., 87, the venerable Southern writer.

The club was formed by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, Nordan’s publisher, in honor of the publication of his new book, “Lightning Song,” and in coordination with a book-signing tour of 17 cities. A spokesman for Algonquin says the idea came about because so many people kept calling to see when new Nordan books would be published.

Nordan’s tour, which began in May, ends this month with appearances in Hattiesburg, Miss., July 14; New Orleans, July 16; and Bay St. Louis, Miss., July 18.

Nordan now teaches writing at University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. He has published both novels and books of short stories. His other books are “Welcome to the Arrowcatcher Fair,” “The All-Girl Football Team,” “Music of the Swamp,” “Wolf Whistle” and “The Sharpshooter Blues.”

Anyone wishing to join the Lewis Nordan Fan Club may do so by sending a postcard to the club at P.O. Box 2225, Chapel Hill, N.C., 27515-2225. Include your name and address on the card.
