The Tolbert Report confirms the obvious: Fayetteville residents are indeed unhappy with a potential move from the Third to the Fourth Congressional District.

The poll of 781 randomly selected Fayetteville voters was conducted on the evening of Monday, March 28, 2011. It has a margin of error of 3.5 percent.

The results show that 81.8 percent prefer to remain in their current district with Bentonville, Rogers and Fort Smith while 10.2 percent prefer to be moved to a new district with Hot Springs, Pine Bluff and Texarkana and 8.0 percent are unsure.

“It is not surprising that the plan has opposition however the magnitude of the opposition in the Fayetteville area with such a small degree of support will be hard for state lawmakers to ignore,” said Tolbert, editor of The Tolbert Report.

In addition, the poll also shows that incumbent Congressman Steve Womack enjoys a healthy approval rating in the Fayetteville area with 43.7 percent having a favorable opinion to 26.8 percent unfavorable, while 29.5 percent had no opinion. By contrast Fourth District Congressman Mike Ross is largely unknown with 52.1 percent having no opinion, while 24.9 percent have a favorable opinion and 23.0 percent unfavorable.
